If you’ve never been to Neighborhood, you’re missing out on some good food and good beers.

If there ever was a glass I needed.

Tiger Tiger brings more beer to North Park

From the owners of Blind Lady Ale House comes North Park’s newest craft beer joint, playfully dubbed Tiger! Tiger! Tavern. This casual cool brew bar boasts indoor/outdoor seating and a laidback urban vibe set by reclaimed wood décor and chill music.

Tiger! Tiger! serves a simple menu of well-made sandwiches and wood-fired oysters that are prepared on the signature wood burning oven. But what is a great oyster without a pint of beer? Tiger! Tiger! is focused on the craft beer program, and features a high-tech direct draw drought system that keeps the stainless steel lines as short as possible, ensuring pure, clean, flavor-packed brew for you.

The beer list is scribbled across a black chalkboard, and includes everything from local Coronado Orange Avenue Wheat and Ale Smith Speedway Stout, to Russian River IPA, Avery Ellie’s Brown Ale and Bear Republic XP Pale. The craft descriptions and alcohol content are also featured in chalk dust for your entertainment and education. If you’re hanging with some buddies and gearing up for a big night, order a 60 oz. pitcher for just $16. On second thought, make that two pitchers.

But all beer buzz aside, I’m obsessed with the logo. This sleek, fancy-pants tiger is giving James Bond a run for his money.

Following in Blind Lady’s footsteps, I see Tiger! Tiger! becoming one of San Diego’s top beer bars, as well as a welcoming gathering spot for the North Park community. As of Thursday, October 20th, Tiger! Tiger! is officially in business at 3025 El Cajon Blvd., open Tuesdays through Sundays from 5pm to midnight. They will soon expand to offer lunch and more fun features throughout the year.

Infographic of the Day: Pop Chart Lab’s latest poster explores the very very many varieties of beer.

89 varieties + 200 representative quaffs + a dozen glassware recommendations = 6 sq. ft of beer-soaked goodness.

Embiggen/pre-order here.

How much pumpkin beer is too much? I was definitely reaching my limit after downing 5L over the last two months. So, my plan was to cap off the pumpkin beer season by trying a bottle of Dogfish Head Punkin Ale.
At the beer store, though, I got all commitment-phobic when I realized Punkin Ale came in four-packs. Whoa, Dogfish. I just wanted to take things slow.
Thankfully, I work with a rad girl who happened to have a four-pack of Punkin Ale in her fridge, and is totally down with sharing.
The Verdict:
A lighter-style pumpkin ale, in that it’s not loaded with spice extras. Nutmeg stood out more than brown sugar. It’s 7%, but it’s as sessionable as Central City Pumpkin Ale.
This is a brown ale, and the malt comes through quite nicely. An even balance of malt and spice; neither is too overpowering.
A pattern seems to be evolving: when pumpkin beers are sold in multiples, they tend to be easier-drinking. Single bottles have been the heavier brews with the deepest pumpkin pie flavours.
If this beer was a cat:
It would be one of 130 cats in “Crazy Russian Cat Lady’s” imposing herd. Too much of a good thing – pumpkin beer or cats – can be a little intimidating.
Where to buy:
Firefly Vancouver had Dogfish Head Punkin Ale in stock, or check with Rachel to see if she has any more in her fridge. (Thanks, Rachel!)

Oh my god, Karen! How did you know about all my cats?!

Never got some this season. :(
