“We thought it was a bad one. He’s out for the season. It’s not unexpected but it’s still bad news. He’ll see a specialist on Monday to work out the progress of when he has the operation. It won’t be immediate as we have to let the swelling come down.”
“Losing Nemanja is a loss and we missed him in the early part of the season for five weeks with his calf injury against West Brom. He’s such a dominant character, particularly his defending in the penalty box. That’s always a strong feature of his game.”
- Sir Alex Ferguson

Great.

United are awaiting a scan to confirm the extent of Nemanja Vidic’s knee injury after the skipper was hurt just before half-time during the 2-1 defeat in Basel.
The early suggestion from the Reds’ camp was that the defender is likely to have suffered ligament damage after twisting awkwardly when penalised for a foul on Marco Streller.
Vidic left the stadium on crutches after being replaced by Jonny Evans ahead of the break at St. Jakob-Park and the manager has admitted he fears the problem is medial ligament damage.

UGH, just UGH.

“I am not a number 10, I know that. I am defender and I have to stop the other team from scoring the goal. If I play well but make one mistake, than all anyone remembers is the goal I conceded. So I have to be fully focused. I am a defender. I like to defend, it’s what I do and what I’m best at. I tackle, I tackle, I tackle. This is what a defender does - this is how I developed my whole career, and this is what the manager wants from me. I play strong, yes. I am not a dirty player and I’m not a killer, as the fans sing. I don’t want to hurt or injure anyone. I just want to win. I have to win, so I do what I have to do.”
